28 Primaveras

We celebrated Edwin's birthday in a fancy restaurant called
A Figueira Rubaiyat.

The word figueira means Fig which is exactly where this restaurant was located, under a 130 year old fig tree.

After dinner, we get the bill. It was a little painful but that's not the point. Turns out the restaurant does not accept mastercard and that's all we were carrying. Apparently this happens all the time (they get many tourists). The waiter helps Edwin find an ATM (which in this city is easier said than done).

Unlucky in their search, the waiter turns to Edwin and says "Don't worry, just sign the bill, leave me your telephone number, and you can come back tomorrow and pay it."

When Edwin explains this to me I immediately did not understand exactly what he meant. What do you mean come pay it tomorrow? Do we have clean dishes? Who the hell does this? Wait... so we physically leave the restaurant, with a pending bill, and he will wait for us tomorrow morning so we can pay for our meal the NEXT DAY!?!?!

So there you have it... in the third largest city in the world, in the most famous steak restaurant, you can find (possibly) the only person in the world that is not completely corrupted by the world.

We were very happy to pay that bill. It's good Karma after all.
